This course introduces the fundamentals of low vision, explaining how vision develops, how visual information is processed by the brain, and what happens when visual perception is significantly impaired. You’ll gain an understanding of common low vision assessments, diagnostic procedures, and the challenges individuals with visual impairments face in everyday life.
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical guidance, helping you interpret examination findings and implement targeted support measures that promote independence, participation, and quality of life for children, adolescents, and adults with visual impairments.

Meet the Instructor
Sue Santschi
Sue Santschi is a certified orthoptist with extensive clinical experience in ophthalmology and low vision care. After completing her orthoptics training in Switzerland, she worked across several ophthalmology practices before specialising in low vision in 2008.
She currently practises at Pilatus Augenärzte in Lucerne, where she helps individuals with visual impairments maximise their functional vision and independence through specialised assessment and support.
